Ucchi Pillayar Temple or Rock Fort Temple
Tourists visiting Trichy can never tend to miss the Rock Fort Temple, which is hewn and shaped on the 83 meters outcrop by the Pallavas and Pandyas. To reach the temple, you have to climb about 350 rock-cut steps. The temple has a rich history, where its oldest structure was built by the Pallavas, who later lost the city to Pandyas. The Cholas took over the city in the 10th century until they lost it to Vijayanagara Empire. In the battle of Toppur, Madurai Nayaks took over it and developed the place for trade.
The various battles saw fortifications built around for strengthening defence. The temple complex has the Lower Cave Temple and Upper Cave Temple. The temple in the lower cave has many exquisitely carved pillars. The temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha.
Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple
Situated in Srirangam, Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple is spread over 156 acres of vast land and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The significance of the temple lies in the seven enclosures, which is considered to be the sacred number representing the elements in the human body or centers in yoga. The visitors are guided through the seven enclosures and the first one is the seventh, which is called Rayagopuram and the gopuras (monumental towers) here are yet to be finished.
When the sixth and fifth enclosures have four goparas and Manavala Mamunigal shrine, the fourth and third are dedicated to Venugopala Krishnan and Garuda Mandapa. The third enclosure also has many mandapas and sanctuaries, as well as Chandrapushkarani (sacred tank). The second and first enclosures have only one entry and they lead to the sanctum sanctorum.
St. Joseph's Church
Built in 1812, the St. Joseph’s Church is known to have built by the British in Teppakulam. The church features the statues of five Great Saints in the middle of the Gothic Tower. At the elevation of 90 feet, you can see the chimney bell. Inside the church, the windows are decorated with the stained glasses, which exhibit various scenes of the lives of Jesus, Saints and Evangelists.
You can also find the grottos of Jesus and our Lady at the entrance. The church is open for the holy mass at 5.30 am & 6.30 am and 6.30 pm on all weekdays and 5.15 am, 6.15 am, 7.30 am & 6.30 pm on all Sundays.
Mukkombu Dam
An exciting spot at the banks of Cauvery and Kollidam rivers, tourists can enjoy being in the greenery of the park and going fishing and boating. Apart from these places, you can also visit the Pachamalai, Anna Science Centre, Government Museum, and so on.
